Siphokazi Molteno


Siphokazi Molteno, is our Alumnus for the March 2018.

Siphokazi Molteno, 25, was born in East London. She became interested in classical music at the age of 14. After finishing her matric at Ulwazi High School in Mdantsane, she went to further her studies at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth.

She specialized in Music Education and Singing under the tutelage of Lionel Van zyl and then graduated in 2014.In her second year of study, Siphokazi joined the NMMU Choir which is conducted by Junita van Dijk and she became the choir soloist. While at NMMU she passed her Unisa Grade 8 in Voice with distinction.

She was later invited to Pretoria to participate in a competition commemorating 100 years of Unisa’s existence. She also received her Performer’s Assessment Certificate from Unisa in 2014. Both of these achievements were awarded with distinction.

While in Port Elizabeth, she performed with the Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra during the Youth Concerto Festival. In 2015, she joined the South African College of Music Opera School where she is currently doing her final year of Performer’s Diploma studying with Patrick Tikolo and Kamal Khan. Last year, she participated in the Comfort Ye Production at Artscape as an understudy.

She was a chorus member in Verdi’s La Traviata in the Artscape Opera House, she appeared as Cherubino in UCT Opera Schools production of Mozart’s ​ Lenozze di Figaro.​ She won third place in the Schock Foundation Prize for Singing, and performed as a chorus member in the successful 4:30 Operas Made in South Africa at Artscape in 2015. She appeared in the kaleidoscope in May 2016 as Sesto from ​ La Clemenza di Titto​ by Mozart,In January 2017 she was invited in the Concert of Arias singing competition in Houston Grand Opera in Texas where she won the audience prize and the Anna Maria Martinez scholarship.She appeared as Flora in La traviata in the Aspen Music festival in Colorado.In September 2017 she did Rossini’s La Cenerentola and appeared as Cinderella.In March 2018 She is going she is going to participate in the Deborah Voigt international singing competition
