Change the world

Event location: South Campus Auditorium

Event date and time: 08/08/2018 19:30:00

The Music Department at Nelson Mandela University is proud to host the first String Ensemble concert of the year, directed David Bester, on Wednesday, 8 August 2018, 19:30 Bird Street Campus.

Newly formed Nelson Mandela University String Ensemble (N-MUSE) under the direction of David Bester, ECPO principal concertmaster, make their debut with the delightful Baroque music of Italian composer Arcangelo Corelli. Corelli’s electrifying music for string ensemble, includes three of his twelve Concerti Grossi (Opus 6) and a virtuosic arrangement of three dances from his violin sonatas by Ettore Pinelli.

N-MUSE is a group of vibrant and passionate musicians. This concert will also feature Bester and violist, Elmarie van der Vyver, as violin soloists alongside Rudi Bower (guitar) and Annamarie Serrao (cello).

Corelli exploited the infinitely varied and expressive possibilities of string instruments in his music. Ranging from the brightest exuberance and animated textures to the eerily empty-sounding, heart-wrenching harmonies, he painted pictures with string and bow and told stories through sound.

Tickets will be available at the door with, R50 for adults, R30 for pensioners and R20 for students. Entrance is free for all music students.
